Welcome to my creative journey.
Hi, I’m SB! Welcome to this little corner of the internet where I’m trying something new: blogging. This space is where I’ll share my thoughts, creative processes, and ideas—a chance to be real about the journey of juggling life, school, art, and everything else. Think of this as an introduction—to me, my story, and what drives my work.
Art didn’t start as a career for me—it started as a lifeline. For as long as I can remember, I’ve dealt with anxiety and depression, and there was a time I didn’t know what to do with all those feelings. In 2017, Drawing became my outlet. It started with simple sketches and YouTube tutorials. Slowly, I realized, "Hey, I’m not so bad at this." Art became a way to turn heavy emotions into something beautiful, something I could see and hold onto.
Then came the Apple Pencil. My cousin gifted it to me, and that opened up a whole new world of digital art. I was hooked and haven’t looked back since. Every day is still a learning process, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I didn’t even think about sharing my art with the world until 2020, and now it’s one of the ways I connect with others.
My work is deeply personal. It’s about finding and celebrating beauty—even when it’s hard to see. I highlight features we might overlook or not fully appreciate and turn them into something to be proud of. Black culture is at the heart of what I do. Its richness, resilience, and influence inspire my creations. Through my art, I honor the stories and traditions that shape us and bring those narratives to life. Hearing how my work resonates with others reminds me why I keep creating.
The name "Soulific Artwork" reflects my purpose as an artist. While thinking about the impact I wanted my work to have, I thought of the word "prolific," but it felt too common. I wanted something that spoke to the nurturing and spiritual connection I feel when creating. That’s how "Soulific" came to be—it’s about producing plentiful creations that nurture the spirit and emotional being. It’s a name that captures my mission and reminds me of the power art has to uplift and heal.
But my creativity doesn’t stop at art. I’ve discovered a love for helping others through educational and cultural consulting. I draw on my experience with the arts and my background in social work, education, and program development to build initiatives that inspire growth, inclusivity, and cultural understanding. Black culture influences this work, too, as I aim to foster connections and celebrate diversity. With an MSW and currently pursuing my doctorate in education, I’m weaving together creativity and strategy to make an impact. Whether it’s working with individuals, brands, or organizations, I love collaborating to bring visions to life and build meaningful connections.
This blog is just the beginning. It’s a space where I’ll share not just my art but the lessons, ideas, and experiences that shape my path. Thanks for being here, for reading, and for supporting this evolving journey.
From my heart to yours,
SB
